Direct car from Skokie into the Loop — roughly 16 miles, normally 30 to 50 minutes by road. No meter, no surge, no transfer at Howard. Firm quote within 30 minutes.
We quote Skokie to downtown per trip rather than publishing a single fare, and the reason is honest rather than evasive: a 9am run into the Loop and a 6pm Friday run are not the same job. Publishing one number would mean it was wrong for half the people reading it.
Send the pickup address, where downtown you are going and the time. Dispatch works out the fare and comes back with a firm figure, normally within 30 minutes. Once you accept it, that is the price — it does not move because traffic was bad, because it started raining, or because everyone else wanted a car at the same moment.
Skokie has decent transit on paper. In practice, getting downtown means the Yellow Line to Howard, a transfer to the Red Line, and then the run south into the Loop. Add the walk at both ends and the wait for the transfer and it is realistically 50 to 70 minutes door to door.
A direct car is normally 30 to 50. The gap matters most in the cases people actually book: getting to a dinner reservation, a show with a curtain time, a hospital appointment, or a game where the Red Line is already full before it reaches you.
It matters again on the way back. Leaving the Loop after an event is exactly when rideshare demand spikes and the multiplier appears. A pre-booked car is a fixed number regardless.
The same applies in reverse: we run downtown back out to Skokie 24 hours a day.
